I started a few weeks back. Not truly believing in its benefits but had heard so many people talking positively about it. So I just went, well it cannot hurt. I recycled a notebook I wasn’t really using for this new purpose. After a few attempts I found that the best location for me was to put it, with a pen, next to my bed, so it cannot be easier: when I sit down on the edge of my bed before going to sleep, I start writing.
I also wanted it to be super simple. So I drew 3 emojis (see picture).
First days, there were quite a few unhappy or neutral items and I would still go to sleep upset with the least good things.
But then, the positive list grew longer and longer.
And looking at the one thing I would write under the unhappy emoji versus the whole list under the happy emoji, there was just no way I would lay unhappy in my bed. Rather I would be happy about the long list.
What do I write down? Everything I feel like: be it cooking a meal for or with my kids, a success big or small in my professional life, a dancing or workout session done, and so on.

And the day I don’t write down, I can tell you I do feel the difference. My energy is different. Its level is different. So I am motivated to continue writing my wins because I clearly feel the benefits.
A totally unexpected benefit though, after a few weeks of journaling was feeling more joy in my life and feeling happy for all the small things I get to enjoy through life. And realizing how many there actually are.
And last but not least, one evening, when just on my way to do the same usual thing, I started writing down my objectives for the next 10 months. They were absolutely clear. No effort, no discussion or bargaining with myself, simply the genuine feeling this is exactly what I want to achieve. I had been struggling to get my vision and now the picture was crystal clear.
Do you feel like trying it out? Please do and share back your experience with me.
And don’t forget, no matter what, just #KeepGrowing.
